How to Have a Fit Pregnancy

In the past, women who were pregnant were expected to take it easy and to avoid doing too much of anything. These were also the same women who were totally unconscious when the delivery actually occurred. In today’s society, pregnant women are encouraged to remain as active as possible to help their bodies better prepare for the stress of giving birth. There are several ways that you can take to enjoy a fit pregnancy.

Maintaining a Healthy Diet

Many women have the misconception that while they are pregnant they should “eat for two.” To have a fit pregnancy, you should try to maintain a healthy diet with reasonable portions. If you still feel hungry, you should have regular snacks during the course of the day. You should avoid unhealthy snacks such as potato chips and pretzels and choose foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables instead. If you seem to have a problem with unhealthy foods, you should remove them from the house and avoid buying any more. If you do no have these types of foods around, you will not be tempted to eat them.

The kinds of foods that you eat at mealtimes are important as well. You should have items from every food group included into your meal plans and avoid anything that is fried. Steamed vegetables and lean meats are a good way to maintain a healthy diet.

Many obstetricians prescribe their patients maternal vitamins to supplement their regular meals. You should follow the doctor’s orders and take these medications as prescribed. Some women have complained that these vitamins cause uncomfortable side effects such as nausea. If you experience any problems with your vitamins, you should let your doctor know so that he can prescribe you vitamins that will not have these symptoms. You should not just quit taking them and due without. These vitamins are essential to the health of you and your baby.

Pregnancy and Exercise

You should also try to exercise daily as part of your program to have a fit pregnancy. Low impact exercises are the best for expectant mothers. Walking is excellent form of exercise and will also allow you to enjoy some fresh air. You should change the route that you take every day or follow the same route only walking it backwards. This alteration will help to prevent you from becoming bored and will give you the opportunity to enjoy a change of scenery.

Swimming is another ideal exercise to help you to have a fit pregnancy. This activity can allow you to stretch your muscles and improve your cardiovascular system. An advantage that swimming has over other types of exercises is the fact that due to your buoyancy in the water, your heavier weight does not encumber your movements.

Kegel exercises are also a good way to have a fit pregnancy. You can do these exercises sitting in a chair or on the couch. You simply tighten your pelvic muscles and hold them for several minutes. You release and then repeat several times. This exercise can help to strengthen your pelvic and vaginal muscles to prepare them for the process of giving birth.

Consult Your Doctor

You should consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program. You should also call him immediately if you begin to fell dizzy, nauseous, or experience chest pains when working out. Any decrease in fetal movement, cramping, or bleeding should also be checked right away.

A fit pregnancy is a good way to ensure an easier pregnancy and may also help you through the pains of delivery.
